Carrot and oats blend.

Getting back to eating healthy is never an easy thing to start. So, I started with my favourite foods, definitely trying to mix the benefits together while making it taste great. This can be used as part of a smoothie throughout the day or simply as breakfast.


2 carrots (grated)

Half cup raw oats

Half cup milk (choice of milk type or water)

Some honey


Blend the carrots with milk to help the process speed up. Then blend in the oats. Add some honey to taste. You may also use brown sugar if there’s no honey, molasses or syrup.


Why this mixture:

Carrots: Well, apart from the commonly known facts that carrots are good for your eyes and that they contain antioxidants which may help protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease; carrots are also available throughout all seasons which make them easy to obtain. They also have the ability to assist in regulating blood sugar levels and contribute towards your daily fiber needs.

Carrots help increase metabolism therefore helping the body’s fat burning process. They are an excellent immune booster and can help the body fight colds and other infections. Carrots help maintain healthy skin and improve the health of nails. They may also help improve brain function.

Most of all carrots have the ability to kill destructive oral germs and may also avert tooth decay.

Oats: Flat stomach is all the rage over oats nowadays. While it is true and a reality that oats contributes towards a flat stomach, especially when oats is taken alongside a healthy diet and exercise; there are other benefits to eating oats. Oats is nutritious and contains manganese, zinc, vitamin B, phosphorus and other essential minerals for the body. Raw oats is high in resistant starch which helps decrease insulin levels, regulating and improving blood sugar levels. It also aids better digestion and relieves constipation.

Oats is high in fiber and is very filling which can help you lose weight. It is also good for your skin from the inside out, although I prefer applying it directly to the skin.

Milk: Well, milk is high in calcium which is good for the bone and teeth. It also contains protein which helps repair and build muscle tissue and is also a source of energy.

Honey: It tastes great. Honey is also rich in antioxidants and helps lower blood pressure. Still, I just use it because it adds taste to the food.

Well, try the mixture and see if you like it. You may also tweak it to your liking. Enjoy.
