Some times we think that there is some motivational speaker somewhere in the world that will speak life into our lives and automatically things will fall into place. I have come to learn that as much as motivational speakers inspire us, the greatest motivation comes from within ourselves.
It’s not what others tell you that makes a difference in your life, it’s what you tell yourself about what you tell yourself. It’s what you tell yourself after hearing motivational talks. It’s what you tell yourself about the vision you have for your life. Your words to yourself translate into actions that can bring huge changes in your life.
You may or may not be familiar with the story but a story is told about a woman who had been sick for a long time. One day a great healer and prophet was passing through her town and she was among the people in the area where this man was passing. The story reads “She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
She had already heard those that had encountered the man before speak about how great a healer he is. She had all the motivation she needed to go see the man but it was her own self-convictions that led her to act and she was healed.
It is ultimately what we tell ourselves that dictates our success or failure. If you tell yourself that you are going to fail, that will translate into you always fearing and hesitating to start something because you have already convinced yourself of failure.
Guard your words to yourself. You have the power to build yourself up and the power to destroy yourself. Once you tell yourself something, you determine your actions. Those actions determine your direction. Be kind to yourself, be gentle with yourself and most importantly, be the moving force behind your rising up. Don’t sell yourself short, don’t underestimate yourself and never fail to try.
